Finding the Middle Way: Alignment, Integrity, and the Art of Support

A Conversation with Rachel Krentzman

In the world of yoga and physical therapy, we often talk about "opening up." we celebrate flexibility, we push for deeper stretches, and we aim for those perfectly straight lines. But for Rachel Krentzman- a physical therapist, yoga therapist, and Hakomi psychotherapist- the conversation is much deeper than a simple stretch.

With over thirty years of experience working with bodies, Rachel has seen a recurring pattern: dedicated practitioners, particularly women, who have incredible flexibility but live with chronic, unexplainable pain.

“The question is always: Why?” Rachel says. “Why are they having so much pain if they’re doing something so healthy for their body?”

The Myth of "Yoga-ing It Out"

The culprit is often the Sacroiliac (SI) joint. Frequently mistaken for lower back pain, SI dysfunction is a common struggle for yoga teachers and postpartum women. Because the pelvis has opened to accommodate childbirth or has become hyper-mobile through years of practice, the sacrum loses its stability.

“Here’s the thing about SI joint dysfunction,” Rachel explains. “You can’t ‘yoga’ it out. You can’t just do more poses to make it better, because the problem is movement. If you’re out of alignment, every forward bend or backbend can actually increase the irritation.”

This realization led Rachel to develop the Happy Back Yoga Method. It’s an approach rooted in the "Middle Way"- finding the sweet spot between being too rigid and being too unstable. Instead of just more "opening," Rachel’s practice focuses on strength, stability, and integrity. It’s about building a container that supports the spine rather than just stretching it.

Redefining Alignment

To Rachel, alignment isn't about boxy, straight lines. Our spines are curvy; our joints aren't symmetrical.

"Alignment is when the muscles that should be working are the ones working- and there are no extra muscles straining. It’s when your body is lined up perfectly for your specific shape, creating a sense of peace, quiet, and calm."

But as a therapist who integrates yoga into healthcare innovation, Rachel knows that alignment doesn't stop at the skin's surface. It extends to how we live, what we eat, and even what we choose to wear.

Why the Jumpsuit?

When you spend your days analyzing pressure, texture, restriction, and ease, you become incredibly intentional about what you put on your body. The body responds to everything. If your clothing restricts your breath or pulls your pelvis out of its neutral alignment, it creates a subtle, constant state of "noise" in the nervous system.

For a decade, our Classic Jumpsuit has been designed with this exact clinical awareness in mind. It is built to:

  • Move naturally: No restrictive waistbands that fight against your SI joint or digestive system.

  • Support the "Middle Way": Providing enough structure to feel held, but enough ease to breathe fully.

  • Honors Integrity: It doesn't force the body into a shape; it follows the body's lead.

As Rachel puts it, when we are out of alignment with our core values or our physical needs, tension moves to the muscles, muscles pull on the bones, and pain follows. Choosing pieces that truly support your physical form is a small but vital act of living your dharma- your true purpose.
