We all know that feeling as summer winds down—the air cools, the kids FINALLY head back to school, and we’re left facing those familiar routines once again. After a couple months of disrupted yoga practices, relaxed eating habits, and a break from daily rituals, now is the perfect time to gently ease back into them—without the guilt or judgment.
Here are our teams 5 Tips for Returning to a Healthy and Embracing Routine After the Summer Madness 🫠
#1. Embrace the Slow Transition🌱
Good news—easing back into your routine can be gentle and pleasant! Just like a yoga session focused on breathing and body awareness, transitioning from summer doesn’t have to be rushed. In fact, research shows that when we jump back into strict routines too quickly, 45% of us quit within two weeks. So, why not start slow?! Maybe with a short morning yoga practice or a relaxed afternoon walk—find a pace that feels right for you, one step at a time.
#2. Let Go of the GUILT!
YES!!! It’s like losing 20 pounds. No sweat.
We let loose a little this summer ~ and that’s AMAZING! Maybe we skipped a few workouts, indulged in more ice cream, or took a break from our organic diets. Summer is time for fun, and now it’s time to focus on new beginnings - no judgment & guilt free. Remember, guilt only holds us back. Instead, give yourself a big hug and start your routine with some self-compassion ~ just like in yoga : )
3. Focusing on Nourishment 🌿 Not Restriction
As we return to nourishing ourselves, let’s skip the strict diets and focus on what makes us feel good. 80% of people who start strict diets ditch them within a year. After a summer of temptations, it’s not about restricting yourself; it’s about adding more of the good stuff—more veggies, more water, more rest. This isn’t a competition; it’s a way of life.
#4. Reestablish Your Sleep Routine
Just like babies, we need good sleep—or we get grouchy, and it’s not pretty! Sleep is the foundation of a healthy routine. If your summer sleep schedule was a bit wild, now’s the time to get back on track. Research shows that consistent sleep schedules reduce the risk of chronic diseases by 40%. Start with a regular bedtime and add a soothing ritual, like reading or a warm bath, to help you feel better both physically and mentally.
5. Reconnect with Your Intentions✨
LOVE this part! As we settle back into our routines, it’s time to reconnect with our intentions and goals. What do you want to achieve in the coming months? Maybe it’s journaling more, cooking at home, or setting aside time for self-care. Intentions are a GREAT motivator! Just the extra sauce you need to get the season to stay fresh and exciting : )
but *** please *** remember - let them guide you, not weigh you down.
Easily said than done right?!
Setting goals is easy; sticking to them is the challenge. So here’s how we like to set Goals and Establish Routines We’ll Actually Stick To.
#1 Start Small 🐞 Begin with small, achievable goals. For example, commit to two workouts a week instead of every day.
#2 Be Specific📍 Instead of a vague goal like “be healthier,” aim for something measurable, like “drink 8 glasses of water a day.”
#3 Build Gradually🚲 Once you’ve mastered one goal, add another. Gradual progress makes it easier to stick to new routines.
#4 Track Your Progress📓 Use a journal or an app to stay on track. Seeing your progress, even in small steps, can be incredibly motivating.
#5 Celebrate Small Wins🥂 Every achievement, no matter how small, deserves celebration. Positive reinforcement is key to keeping your motivation high.
So enjoy decompression...
time to reconnect with your routines in a gentle and embracing way. Routine isn’t an obligation; it’s a gift—an opportunity to center ourselves, strengthen our bodies and minds, and move forward with balance and inner peace.
At Ripple, we’re here to remind you that yes you can do this with self-compassion and love.
